"No research on us, without us."

I have been interested in community research for several years, working within academic and community-based environments on research projects involving the community members they ultimately impact. These projects fuel my passion for the research approach called Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR).

For me, the best definition of Community Based Participatory Research comes from the Detroit Urban Research Center:

"Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) is partnership approach to research that equitably involves community members, organizational representatives, and academic researchers in all aspects of the research process. It enables all partners to contribute their expertise, with shared responsibility and ownership; it enhances the understanding of a given phenomenon; and, it integrates the knowledge gained with action to improve the health and well-being of community members, such as through interventions and policy change."

It can be simply summed up as "No research on us, without us."

Reach out to me if your organization is considering a research project that involves the community it intends to impact and visit Past Projects to see some of the community research projects I have been involved in over my career.
